Testimonials

Our relationship with Avril has been a delight.  Not only does she own and operate a great guesthouse in an outstanding location with the utmost of professionalism and hospitality, but she is also a good person to have on your side.  Her business education and experience has served her well and her guests are the beneficiaries of her knowledge and efforts on their behalf.

Avril is a consummate hostess.  Her establishment, Carlton Seamill, is a beautiful Victorian house, with a classic furnishing style, set in an unparalleled location, right next to the beach, and with breathtaking views from each window.  She takes every opportunity to ensure your comfort while you are staying with her, and is a wonderful guide to the local area and the region, and also to the wealth of Scottish culture.  As to the choice of breakfast dishes: the selection is wide-ranging and expertly cooked.  All in all, just what you need while away from home, and at a very competitive rate.

Avril gives you a friendly welcome, with lots of helpful information about the lovely area around Carlton Seamill.  For those looking for something different from the usual modern hotel chains, Carlton is the place to be!  Full of character, lovely antique furniture - and with wonderful sea views across to the Island of Arran from the double bedrooms and garden - Avril's home is a unique place in which to stay.

Having viewed the Carlton often online, I knew I would go there one day and I am so glad that we did. It is a fascinating house full of character with wonderful paintings, furniture, objet d'art, ceramics, materials and many other items from the past. You will see things in this house that you have not seen for years. There are even two stone 'pigs' outside the bathroom door, but you will not require them because you will not be cold.

The view from our window was of the magnificent Isle of Arran, where we have lived for 40 years....and the Carlton is approx. 500 yards from where I used to live before I got married! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stroll along the beach to have a nosey at my old house!

Avril is the keeper of the house and she is every bit as fascinating as the house itself. She loves the house with heart and soul and has done all she can to make it a totally different experience for each and every guest who is lucky enough to step over the threshold. I feel that had I stayed there for a week I would still have had numerous things yet unseen.

The smell of bacon will greet you when you wake up and when you go downstairs you will have a superb breakfast which will keep you going until evening dinner.
