Paddle Steamer Waverley on a pleasure-trip

"doon the watter"

This expression is a Glaswegian one meaning down the water, and it refers to the days gone by when Glaswegians spent their summer holidays taking boat-trips on the Firth of Clyde. The PS Waverley is almost all that remains of this glorious tradition, sadly. Some years ago, it was saved from the breakers' yard by a group of dedicated enthusiasts who bought it for a pound. (Yes, a £.) What else can you buy for a pound nowadays? Never was a pound better spent!
